Cooperation is still a necessary thing to instill in the young, but also promoting competion is necessary. Both of these are fair counterarguments, which is why I believe in competition over cooperation, but not competition in place of cooperation. It could also drive away people with potential if it becomes too toxic. Too much competition could cause some people to become to competitive and possibly purposfully sabotage other's work to better than own. On the opposing side, however, there are those who say that competition can lead to a negative environment. A leader should be someone who is willing to express their own ideas in addition to listening to other's and competition can help to foster that quality. Instead it would push them to come forward and promote their own ideas and opinions. In an enviroment that promotes competition over cooperation, it would be harder for people to just go along with what the group says. In addition to promoting hard work, competition also forces people step up rather than stand back and hide behind others. They would work outside of their comfort zone and take the initiative for new, innovative ideas. This will drive all the designers who are a part of that project to work hard so that their idea is chosen. In addition, the designer who's idea ends up being chosen by the client will recieve a bonus check. For example, say an advertising company gives a group of designers a project to come up with a logo design for a client company. When seeing their peers work dilligently towards a given goal, other people will also want to work hard as well so they don't fall behind. Competition promotes growth and challenge, and can give the younger generation a chance to drive one another to improve.Ĭompetition pushes people out of their comfort zone and gives them the drive to work harder. And while I do believe that cooperation is an important factor to learn, competition is the main driving force for instilling leadership skills into the next generation. For some people, the best way for society to prepare its young people in terms of leadership in various fields is to instill a sense of cooperation rather than competition. There is a saying that goes, "our children are our future" and thus we must do out best do ensure that they succeed in their own futures.
